Went go kart racing for the first time this afternoon. Headed over to joe’s place after church, and then picked up todd on the way to vacaville in joe’s car. Billy drove there separately since he didn’t want to waste any time (he’s preparing for a presentation at work tomorrow).

We got there around 2, but the earliest race time we could sign up for turned out to be 3:40. Billy was planning on getting back to davis to prepare at 4, but decided to wait with us, using the wifi at the place to study while the rest of us sat and watched the 49ers game.

We used some groupon vouchers that joe and I purchased a while back. Normally each race costs 20 something dollars per person, but we each bought 2 vouchers each of 2 races each. Each race consisted of 17 laps that each lasted about 17 seconds, so each race was only about 5 minutes long.

The races weren’t really head to head, but time trials. The leaderboard at the end of each race was simply based on the fastest lap time during the 17 laps.

The karts actually went surprisingly fast, so driving them around the track was a pretty neat experience. You could definitely hit corners at high speeds and then drift, but that slows you down a lot. I placed 4th in the first race, and then 5th in the next one at 4:10.

Got back to davis in the early evening, played a bit of soul caliber with joe at halsey house, and then headed home.

At church this morning, eugene gave a message on the status of his missions work in mexico. Some of the youth that went to mexico this past summer also went up and played a song titled “Te Doy Gloria”. Lucas led the male vocals, which was pretty awesome.
