Random Things September 15, 2011

Played bball with billy from 6 to 8. Had some pretty good games, and was extremely tired by the end. Paid $7.50 again to get in since I haven’t purchased a membership yet. Didn’t take any pics during the day, so I decided to photograph some random “facts” in my room.

The first is the fact that I drink water at my desk out of a large glass beer mug. My mom came across this thing one day and bought it for me, since I was previously using a large bowl (I don’t like having to repeatedly get up to fetch water from the filter in the kitchen. This beer mug holds quite a bit of water, so it’s convenient and makes more sense than a bowl. I usually keep it capped with a tupperware cap lest dust and other impurities pollute my water.

Another random “fact” is that I’ve been considering the Canon 35mm f/1.4. It’d set me back at least around $1,200 (since I’d buy it used), so I might sell one or more of my existing lenses for it, since I have a couple L lenses I don’t use very often. One of them is the 16-35mm. The lens conveniently offers the 35mm focal length I’m considering, so I decided to tape up the zoom ring yesterday to fix it at 35mm, effectively turning it into a 35mm f/2.8 prime lens. Used it last night when watching le mis with friends.

I really like the focal length — I started thinking that it’s the perfect “everyday use” focal length after buying a 35mm lens for my Leica. I’d be paying a huge cost for the extra stops of light if I upgraded to a 35mm f/1.4 though… Not sure it’s worth it at this point. I’ve been using a 24mm f/2.8 prime lens for quite some time now, but lately I’ve been feeling like it’s a bit too wide for everyday use.

A third fact is a magnetic dry erase board I have in my room. I wanted to use it as a board for memorizing bible verses, but I didn’t really follow through with that plan, so I ended up jotting down some favorite verses on the board and using it as decoration and a place to stick things with magnets.

Finally, my last “fact” for today is a photo of the bookshelf in my room. It’s mostly filled with various christian books, and the books that don’t have to do with christianity are mostly novels by C.S. Lewis (most of which I haven’t read yet, haha).
