Buchanan Sweep March 5, 2005
Our first match today was supposed to be at 10 something. Dale wanted to be woken up at a quarter to nine, but he accidentally slept in. We left a bit late, so we got to the courts without having breakfast. They were supposed to bring us stuff before the match, but we got started without barely eating anything.
I brought two bagels onto the court, and tried to make them work with the powerbar I ate to power me during the match. He was pretty good though, and I tried to get as many games as I could, since the school score was 3-3, and the sets were the same as well, it was decided by how many games each school won. Near the end of my match, everyone was watching me, but unenthusiastically. Since they weren’t too nervous, I assumed we had already lose by games. After barely losing the two sets, I was told that we had won already.
We went to quiznos for lunch. I got clam chowder. Quiznos clam chowder is so good. It’s really dumb how I’m doing free advertising for them to my five readers, but I’m addicted and I want to have the world know.
Arriving back at the courts, I went to the bathroom. The school was the nicest, richest we’ve ever seen, and I was in awe when I saw all the gigantic and nice looking buildings everywhere. I took two panoramic pictures of two different scenes. View them full size. Internet Explorer tends to make large pictures very small and unviewable. Each of them are very big in size, so slow connections beware:
Our second round match of the day was against Monta Vista, who we lost to just five days ago. I lost my match against Michael Carreno, who is ranked top 10 in 16s. He crushed me 6-0, 6-1. Our team pulled through though, and won on sets.
The most entertaining match we watched during the whole tournament, was Alameda vs Los Gatos. The number 1′s were Brogan and Thong Tu, and everyone watching was cheering for Tu, since Brogan is hated by almost everyone. Thong would have won, but he pulled something in his leg. Whenever Brogan won a point, it would be dead silent, but every point won by Tu was met with applause that would go on for the longest time.
After our easy third round against a no name school, we started leaving for home. We cruised around looking for a place to eat, and settled on some random pizza place. As it has been for as long as we can remember, the coach bought us dinner. We stuffed outselves and went back to the van. Before leaving however, someone on the team came over and told us the worlds tallest dog was in some car in the parking lot. We went over and some people on the team were already staring at it. The owner was in the front seat talking all about it, and with the back windows rolled down, we looked at the dog sitting in the bag. It was huge. We were slightly skeptical, and the owner told us the dog was on tv all the time. When I got home, I googled it, and it turned up right away, even with pictures. The dog’s name is Gibson.
We slept a lot on the trip back to town. The other guys watched Family Guy on Alps portable DVD player. By the time we got back, it was around 11. The trip has a whole was an awesome last fresno trip for us seniors. Its sad that we won’t be having this experience again.
During the whole trip, I took a total of 846 pictures. It’s going to be fun looking back at all the memories and good times we had during these three days.
