Woke up at 8am and had breakfast and devotions at 8:30. Next we had a short devotion time sharing session, followed by a recorded message by Bill Hybels regarding discipleship. After the session, we had lunch, and then left for Lake Spaulding for an afternoon of kayaking and rafting. Twas a memorable time.
After the rafts were inflated, joseph, sean, tim, and I got into a raft. We started travelled to an opposite shore and returned, only to be sent out again on a mission to splash a kayak of brothers by an anonymous leader. We were thus pushed into a very, very long series of battles and incidents. Once, while we were splashing a different raft, sean and I started shouting at tim, saying, "Board! Board! Board!". Tim suddenly dropped his oar, and jumped as hard as he could from our raft to the one we were attacking. He didn't make it all the way, and landed with the upper half of his body clinging to the other raft. Sean and I started laughing extremely hard, probably because neither of us expected tim to actually do it.
Steve Suh also brought along a speedboat that he connected a tube to, and pulled different people around the lake at high speeds. We left Lake Spauling before I had a chance to ride it, so I guess I'll have to wait till next time.
We returned to Sierra Lodge at 4:30 and immediately started doing grounds clearing. We went into the hill and started throwing, snipping, sawing, and pulling all the brush and wood that present fire hazards into burn piles. We did that for about an hour before going into the house. When we returned, some of the guys went to play basketball, but I decided to take advantage of the vacant bathrooms, and immediately took a shower.
After some smoothies, rest, archery outside, fellowship, and dinner, we watched a sermon titled "Carpe Diem" by Tony Campolo. We ended the night early with some fellowship time, games, and a slideshow.
The five tests of discipleship according to Bill Hybels are:
1. Bias toward action
2. Can you follow directions
3. Who deserves the credit
4. The grander vision
5. Will you leave it
