Only had a single class today, but I met with Michael Clancy and talked about my discrete math assignments for two hours. The problems I've been given have done a really good job in stumping me, but I guess it's good to be challenged. In the evening we had a special dinner at Manny's Alameda house.

Aaron and Tommy had to do something, so only Dustin, Sean, Joseph, Derrick and I went. The dinner was really good, and afterwards we studied (after a little foosball).

Devotion time questions:

2 Samuel 11

Reflect on the ominous words, “But David remained in Jerusalem.” What is so inappropriate about this?

The Bible emphasises that it was a time when Kings go off to war, and David sends out his whole army yet doesn't accompany them to provide leadership and morale.

What warning does this have for me regarding temptations?

Be vigilant and avoid anything that could put me in a compromising situation.

What kind of man was Uriah?

Uriah was both loyal and valuable, as he was counted among David's mighty men in 1 Chronicles 11. He was a model soldier.

What is the essential difference in thinking pattern and values between Uriah and David at this point?

Uriah put others above himself, refusing to enjoy the comforts of home while his fellow soldiers were out at war. David, on the other hand, chooses to enjoy the luxuries of his palace life rather than lead his entire army on the battlefield.

Who are all the people that David ended up dragging into his sin because of his refusal to repent?

Bathsheba, Uriah, Joab, and his son.

What can I learn about the progression and operation of sin from this?

If dealt with improperly, sin can spiral out of control and become destructive not only to the sinner but people around him.

Reflect on the significance of the words, “But the thing David had done displeased the LORD.”

Prior to this David had a great track record, seeking and inquiring of God in any circumstance great or small. However, he falls to this temptation and displeases God, even though he was previously fully obedient to Gods will when his life was in mortal danger.
