CS 61C was the only class I had today, so I don't have many pictures from on campus. The rest of the day I played a couple hours of volleyball with Derrick and then tried to get work done the rest of the day. I also finally got a mattress. It's Jon's and was lying around in Sangs apartment before today.
I had previously been using an air mattress ever since arriving here in Berk.
Devotion time questions:
2 Samuel 9
What can I learn about David searching for anyone “left of the house of Saul to whom [he] can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake”?
David upholds his covenant of friendship he made with Jonathan.
How must Mephibosheth have felt as he was being summoned by the king?
Perhaps a sense of dread, as he was a member of the family that once sought David's life.
How must Mephibosheth have felt when he heard David say, “Don’t be afraid…for I will show you kindness… I will restore to you all…and you will always eat at my table”?
He must have felt awe at how he, a crippled member of Saul's family, could merit such favor from the most powerful man in Israel.
Why is Mephibosheth’s response to David’s kindness so right and appropriate?
Because there really isn't anything about him that would merit him such honor from David.
Reflect on this picture of Mephibosheth, crippled in both feet, eating “at David’s table like one of the king’s sons,” all of them, like Absalom, princely and impressive. In what ways have I been the recipient of this kind of incredibly undeserved grace from God?
Even though we, as sinners, fall infinitely short of the glory of God, he invites us to become his sons. Though we reject him and rebel against him, he extends his hand towards us, welcoming us into his family.
