Shuttled back to berkeley at 7:30am. Met with the computer science 61C head gsi at 12:30 in his office to get some information and up to speed in the class. I ran some errands and got some work done afterwards until my 61C lecture at 3pm. At 6pm, our IM volleyball team got together to practice at the RSF.

I didn't bring my camera to the RSF, but brought my cell phone along. Thus, I was able to take some poor quality pictures from the inside.

In the evening, joseph, dustin, tommy and I went to the Unit 2 underground bunker to study. We walked around from place to place for an hour but couldn't find a quiet place with internet. We then walked over to the Unit 1 bunker and worked in the bunker rec room there.

A few hours into our studying, Sean called and told us to stay inside because there was a shooting on campus. We stayed inside and continued working until about midnight. I made a lot of progress on the major program in CS that's due next wednesday. We're basically writing a pretend filesystem in C.

At the end of the evening, we found out that the situation on campus was probably not as serious as people were saying. There might have been gunshots fired, but I don't think anyone was hurt. There's no news about it at all this morning, so it might have just been a rumor that grew as people told one another.

During computer science 61C lecture, we all have these electronic clicker things that allow us to wirelessly submit in class quiz answers. After everyone answers, the professor displays the results of the quiz on the big screen with charts. For the question we had today, the possible answers were 1-8, but when the answers chart came up, we saw that someone in the lecture hall submitted 666. Everyone started laughing at the fact that our answers weren't limited to the numbers 1-8.

When the next graph of answers came up, we saw that someone had submitted '1337', and someone else submitted a really long line of random numbers. Haha.

2 Samuel 3

What is the significance of “David [growing] stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker?”

Since David is God's anointed King, it is inevitable that the kingdom will eventually become his. Everyone fighting for the kingdom of Saul was fighting for a cause that was already lost.

What lesson does this have for which Kingdom I should be investing my life for?

We should be working towards an eternal kingdom, not one that we know will fade away and disappear in the course of time.

What is tragic about Ish-Bosheth?

He falsely accuses Abner of a wrong he did not commit, and causes Abner to turn against him by joining David's cause.

What kind of person is Abner?

Though he himself acknowledges that the Lord promised the kingdom to David on oath, he fought for Judah and Saul until Ish-Bosheth offends him personally. Thus, he seems to hold his pride higher than God's will.

What can I learn from the fact that David receives Abner’s proposal and sends him away in peace despite the kind of guy that Abner is? Was David compromising?

God can use anyone to carry out his plans, even a person like Abner. David understands that this is all part of God's plan for transferring the kingdom into his hands. Since God did not instruct David to deal with Abner, David was not compromising by letting him go.

Why was it wrong for Joab to kill Abner, even though Abner killed Joab’s brother Asahel?

Joab killed Abner not because he was ordered to by God or David, but because he wanted to avenge the death of his brother. Since he was seeking revenge, his actions were selfish and for his personal interest rather than in obedience.

How did David exercise wisdom in this time of crisis? How did his desire to be blameless result in “all the people [taking] note and [being] pleased”?

He clears himself of any connection to the injustice of Abners murder by humbling himself and publicly mourning Abners death, despite the type of person Abner was. For this, he earned the respect of his people.

What kind of person is Joab?

Joab does not seek God's will in what he does but does what he thinks is best for himself. He applies his own wisdom rather than seeking the wisdom of God.

How must have king David felt in having a general like Joab under him despite the fact that Joab was a great warrior? What lesson does this have for me as I serve Jesus?

Although Joab had outstanding gifts and physical attributes, David must have wished at times that he had a more godly general, even if he wasn't as physically impressive as Joab. No matter how many gifts and talents we have, we need to seek God's will or everything we do will be fruitless and counterproductive.
