On fridays I have three discussions and no lectures. Two of mine were cancelled today, but astronomy wasn't. After classes I went on a shopping trip with the dudes. We stopped at target, costco, and 99 ranch. Some of the dudes bought boxers, and many of us bought groceries. We got back at about 7:10.
At 8pm, there was a games night at dana house. We enjoyed fellowship through many hours of social games and side-splitting laughs. Twas both fun and funny.
After the games night, we walked over to Unit 2 and spent some time in the lounge.
I learned the game called "Bang" today. Tomorrow I'm going back to davis for labor day weekend.
Devotion time questions:
1 Samuel 26
Picture David hatching the plan to sneak into a camp of 3,000 enemy soldiers, and then turning to the two men and saying "Who will go down into the camp with me to Saul?" What can I tell about David’s personality (e.g., spontaneity, sense of adventure) and the kind of leader he must have been, from this incident?
He was brave and willing to take risks, winning the respect and loyalty of the men under him. His combination of cleverness and faith in God must have made him an even stronger leader.
Although Abishai’s advice to David seemed logical, what can I learn from David’s response? What does this say regarding the importance of having a priori stance in order for me to be able to make a strong moral decision, even against the advice of those close to me?
We need to examine the seemingly sensible wisdom of the world and see if it contradicts God's will for us. We also need to have clear moral positions that allow us to make firm decisions when the opportunities appear.
What insight does the statement “I have acted like a fool and have erred greatly” provide to his short-lived repentance?
Saul does not honor is word or have rules he lives by. He seems to live by his emotions and circumstance, whether or not his decisions and actions are morally responsible and godly.
What can I learn from the fact that his repentance was just a mere response to the fact that David “considered [his] life precious?” To what extent are people like this in that they are touched emotionally to repent or change their ways when it is beneficial to them only to turn back when it becomes costly?
We need to praise, honor, trust, and obey God in both good times and bad.
