I woke up multiple times this morning due to my housemates getting ready for earlier classes. However, I've gotten much better at falling asleep again until I'm ready to actually get up. After devotions, I went upstairs to get Sang, before the two of us headed to Hertz for our Western Music lecture at 10am.

Our professor's name is Kate Van Orden. She's pretty interesting...

From there, I walked over to Evans and had astronomy lecture with a youthful professor Josh Bloom. After class I learned that I bought the wrong textbook online for the class. Darn. In the evening I put that textbook up for sale on Half for $60, and bought the correct textbook from a guy for $38.

When astronomy was over, it was 12:30. I went over to the Y (YWCA) and met up with some gracepoint people (like joseph and aaron). Joseph and I got some lunch, and took it back to the Y.

Joseph left for class at 2, and I walked over to Sproul Plaza to meet Lynn, Ditha, and John Cai. We walked over to Unit 3 and John Cai's dorm to pick up some "Guide to the Good Life" books for the valuable coupons inside. We used a couple buy one get one free coupons at Papa Mingos for some yogurt.

At 3:30, I had an ethnic studies lecture in a huge Haas Business School lecture hall. The class ended at 5, and I walked around until 6, at which time I had a self-paced computer science introductory meeting that was mandatory.

During the hour I was waiting, I explored the highest floor of Evans hall and figured out how to walk onto the balcony and enjoy the view. It was amazing seeing everyone on campus look like small ants walking around.

After my informational meeting, I had to deal with some stuff at the apartment (like my textbook situation) while my housemates went to prayer meeting. After the meeting was done, they called me and we went to dinner at the Unit 3 dining hall.

When we all got back to the apartment, we played some settlers, and now I'm writing this. Cya.

Devotion time:

1 Samuel 23

Given his men’s initial response and Saul’s statement “David has imprisoned himself by entering a town with gates and bars?” what must have been the military advisability of rescuing Keilah from the Philistines?

Not very advisable because it's basically putting yourself in a corner to be easily surrounded.

What is remarkable about David’s concern for Keilah?

David should seemingly be more concerned about himself at this time, since Saul has been relentlessly pursuing him in order to kill him. However, he still has compassion on a city being attacked by Philistines.

What can I learn from the fact that God asks David to go and rescue Keilah even while David is on the run?

David is obedient to God even though what he is called to do doesn't seem wise from his military perspective. He shows faith that God will provide for and protect him in any situation, as long as he trusts and obeys.

I should trust and obey what God instructs me.

How is it possible for Saul to think that God is on his side in handing David over to him? What is at the root of this kind of self-deception?

I thought that though Saul has rejected God, he still understands that the only way he can possibly retain his kingship is if God ordains it and allows it to happen. Therefore, if he is to kill David, then God must be the one to hand him over.

After talking Joseph, it's probably more likely that Saul possesses a "cosmic vending machine" mentality in regards to how he views God. When things are going bad, he rejects God, but when things are going well, he feels as if God is the one helping him.

How would David have felt in hearing that the citizens of Keilah will surrender him to Saul and the fact that he was once again on the run? How did God strengthen him through Jonathan?

Betrayed, since he had risked his life to save the city of Keilah. Jonathan encouraged him by reaffirming God's plan for him and their camaraderie together.
