New Student Welcome Night would have been a more appropriate title for this entry, but it goes against the standards I have for my entry titles. The big activity earlier in the day today was Calapalooza, UC Berkeley's activities and club fair. I walked around for a while and got a number of free things...
One of the free things was a CD single called "Closer" by a band I like named Travis.
In the middle of the day, I cleaned up the apartment a bit and dealt with the trash while joseph cooked some food with eggs, tomatoes, and beef.
The main event of the day was the New Student Welcome Night put on by Koinonia and acts2fellowship. It started out with a free korean barbeque at 6pm, and then a NSWN program at 7:30. I can't believe how many people showed up for the event.
The event was extremely well put together. The music was incredible, skits funny, and videos professional. I was quite impressed.
Afterwards some of us walked quite a few blocks to a gelato place.
When we got back to the dwight apartments, we went upstairs to dustin and tommy's apartment and sat around talking for a few hours. We told scary stories and had pretty funny conversations.
Tomorrow I'm leaving for the youth group camping trip.
Devotion notes and thoughts:
1 Kings 6
Solomon builds the temple of the Lord, and spends seven years building it. This chapter provides some details about the temple.
Isaiah 54
"For a brief moment I abandoned you,
but with deep compassion I will bring you back.
In a surge of anger
I hid my face from you for a moment,
but with everlasting kindness
I will have compassion on you,"
says the LORD your Redeemer.
"To me this is like the days of Noah,
when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth.
So now I have sworn not to be angry with you,
never to rebuke you again.
Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,"
says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
God promises never to turn his back on Israel again.
Mark 12
To obey the laws of God is better to obey rules written by men and established through tradition. To offer something with a sincere heart is better than to offer something with secret motives and loud boasting.
