I was trying to think of a better title for today's entry, but I couldn't. There was just so much stuff that happened today, and I couldn't come up with an adequate title that encompasses it all. I'll try and summarize my activities, but doing it with too much detail would take forever for me to write and you to read.
This morning, we got up and did our devotions. Sang came down from his apartment upstairs, peeked his head in, and asked if joseph could help his sister move in. I went along. We walked over a few blocks towards campus and helped them move stuff from the car in the parking garage up to the third floor apartment. It took three trips total. Afterwards, Sang treated Steve and I to Tako Sushi. There were more people that helped, but everyone else had to leave early for things, until it was just me and Steve left.
We finished eating the lunch at about 12:46, so there was about fifteen minutes for me to go back to the apartment, get ready, and meet joseph and other people at crossroads for ultimate Frisbee. The plan was to meet at 1 and walk over to the elementary school field at 1:30. We had a pretty large ultimate game, and played quite a few of them. When we finally left, I was slightly sunburned.
A lot of people went to 7-11 to get slurpees. I went along, but didn't get one.
Back at our apartment, sean, Joseph and I took a nap in the living room. The Internet was down all morning, but worked again after our nap, so I was able to take care of some things.
At 6 something we left the apartment and went over to the Unit 3 DC for dinner and DC outreach. Joseph's friend Justin met us there. From there we walked across the street to the First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley for Koinonia's "Shaved Ice and Games" event at 7:30. We had shaved ice with interesting toppings, and played games like Taboo, Catch Phrase, and a sculpting game that was similar to pictionary.
One of the really funny scultures was Sproul Hall. Since we could only use the playdough, our sculpter sculpted the campanile, sather gate, and then another building. After he frantically pointed at each for a while, we got it. I think we won that round out of all the teams in the room.
When I was the sculpter, the three things I needed my team to guess were "victory","antarctica", and "count". We somehow won that round. At the end of the event I sculpted the statue of liberty and an x-wing for fun.
After the event, some of us walked over to Unit 1, where we played some king kong shower. The sophomore girls' small group leader Annie came by, and the girls gave her cake and presents for her birthday today.
When tommy, sean, joseph and I got back to the apartment, we sat around for a bit before playing a game of settlers. Tommy won. We then watched the movie "Thank You For Smoking", before calling it a day.
Tomorrow night is New Student Welcome Night (NSWN) for Koinonia. There's going to be a free korean BBQ dinner.
On Friday, joseph and I are going back to davis and then attending the youth group retreat. This is going to be my brother's first YG retreat. Joseph is returning to Berkeley on sunday afternoon, but I think I'm going to stay until monday afternoon and spend some time with my family. I reserved the shuttle seat a couple days ago. The reservations are pretty packed, so I'll need to start reserving seats two weeks in advance.
Hello family! I miss you guys.
Devotion notes and thoughts:
1 Kings 5
Solomon receives the wood he needs to build the temple from Hiram king of Type in exchange for food.
Isaiah 52
God tells of Israel's coming salvation.
When the Lord returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes.
The Lord will lay bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.
The last part of this chapter tells of Christ's suffering.
Isaiah 53
A famous chapter prophesying Christ.
Mark 11
When we pray, we need to have faith that our prayers will be heard and answered.
