I spent a number of hours today running (or walking) errands and exploring. Joseph and I got up at 8am. I had to get my ID card, and joseph had to drive and table for our fellowship. I got to the ID card building half an hour early, but the line was already around two corners. I finally got my Cal 1 student ID.

While I was waiting in line, I had some pretty long phone conversations with my brother and mom.

I went back to the apartment for a while, and then went to the fountain in Sproul Plaza to meet a guy I arranged to buy a book from. We did the exchange, and afterwards I took the elevator to the top of Sather Tower, where I took some pictures of the view.

From there I walked to the north gate, where Joseph and Tommy were tabling. I visited with them for a while before going a little more north to the computer science department building, Soda Hall.

After exploring for a while, I went back to the apartment and relaxed until Joseph and Sean came home. We were all exhausted, and decided to take a really short nap... The front door was open, and the three of us just found places in the living room to fall asleep. I took a picture of the sight before falling asleep. Too bad I'm not in it, but I napped on a sofa. Joseph looked the strangest, sprawled out on the ground.

After the extremely short nap (10 minutes maybe?), we got ready and went over to the elementary school, where Koinonia was having an event called "Hoops and Hamburgers". We didn't wear any athletic clothes because we didn't think we would play (we're still sore from yesterday), but after arriving we suddenly realized we wanted to play. Joseph, Tommy, and I walked the few blocks back to our apartments, got changed, and jogged back. We won three games in a row before voluntarily stepping down for some food and rest.

When we got back from the event, Joseph and Sean got ready and went to prayer meeting, while I stayed behind at the apartment. I'll probably start attending when I start attending their fellowship. While they were gone I read 60-70 pages of Joshua Harris' book "I Kissed Dating Goodbye."

Pretty late into the evening, we had yogurt at Papa Mingos before retiring to our apartments for the night.

Living in Dwight has been a unique experience so far. Since so many church and fellowship people live in the apartments around us, people walk back and forth a lot, and a lot of stuff happens between the apartments. The other junior guys above us come down and hang out in our place a lot, and we've gone upstairs to other people's apartments for dinner and other stuff. Fellowship comes quite naturally and easily.

Hello mom, dad, and Isaac!

Devotion notes and thoughts:

1 Kings 4

God provided for Solomon abundantly and blessed Israel and Judah during this period.

Isaiah 50

Because the Sovereign LORD helps me,
I will not be disgraced.
Therefore have I set my face like flint,
and I know I will not be put to shame.

Isaiah 51

This is what your Sovereign LORD says,
your God, who defends his people:
"See, I have taken out of your hand
the cup that made you stagger;
from that cup, the goblet of my wrath,
you will never drink again.

Mark 10

Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

There is a cost to following Christ.
