Taco Bell Faint

So... Today Ross, Todd, Amrinder and I went to the silo to get some lunch at 2pm. While we were waiting for our food, we hear someone gasp, and then a thud. Looking over, we noticed that a girl in the taco bell line had collapsed to the ground. People were trying to rouse her, but she seemed to be unconscious.
My decision to take some photographs of this situation might be a little controversial... My reasoning was this:
When the girl fell over, a circle of people gathered around her, and a number of people began to check on her. Others began dialing 911. Dialing 911 on a cell phone probably isn't' the best idea, but the employees at the two restaurants were dialing 911 also.
With so many people checking on her, and so many people calling for help, there wasn't much we could do. My two options were basically to stand there and watch it unfold, or take some photographs to document what I see.
I didn't take these pictures to joke around, or to laugh at what happened. I don't make up the content I post here. I merely post what I see. I talked to a number of people today and discussed whether it was a good idea to take the pictures, and whether or not it would be okay to post them.
To the people present at the time who didn't know me and have never seen this photoblog, the sight of me taking pictures might have seemed rude and inconsiderate. To them, the only purpose of me taking these pictures would have been to show them to friends and laugh about them. However, that wasn't the point...
I didn't take any photographs of her face, so her privacy should be safe. I took photographs of the situation unfolding. Secondly, this blog is all about what I see and experience in my daily life, so certainly this is something I experienced today. If you have any objections to this, feel free to get in touch with me.
A firetruck and ambulance both arrived soon after, and wheeled the girl away on a stretcher. She was conscious and moving quite healthily, so I think she's okay.
It's weird that I've witnessed people being taken away in ambulances two days in a row now, and documented both of them on this photoblog. Yesterday's entry was regarding a car vs. bicycle accident I rode by.
mike`s fan in beijing on May 19, 2007 09:01 AMThere is a true story about a jounalist of a magazine. He took a picture in Africa where people suffered from famine. The publicity of the shocking picture that an emaciated baby was dying in his mother`s arms initiated a discussion in China. Some people condemned the jounalist for his mercilessness. They thought that jounalist should give the baby food and help but not take photo.Another people supported what he did.As a professional jounalist,it was his duty to report what happened in the world honestly.Because Of pressure ,the jounalist was also confused and bagan to be in doubt.I think he did a good job. That picture gives us a chance to know the world. So i think you are right.Your blog makes us know and understand what American youths think and do everyday.Especially as an "abc",maybe you have some different perspective.
Thank you very much!Happy everyday! :)
michael on May 19, 2007 09:48 AMYou might be talking about Kevin Carter's famous photograph of the starving Sudanese child being watched by vultures.
He waited 20 minutes for the vulture to spread his wings, but then just snapped the photograph when it didn't happen and chased the vulture away. The photograph won him a Pulitzer prize, but might have also been the reason he committed suicide...
It definitely stirred up an enormous amount of controversy. Did the photograph justify him not immediately helping the starving girl? What else could he have done in that situation?
Some might argue that giving the public awareness of things like that happening the world did a lot of good.
However, I don't believe this example applies to my entry today... Maybe it would if for some reason people were collapsing all the time at UC Davis. Thankfully, the girl in the situation today was fine.
