Derrick Bang Entertainment editor
Enterprise entertainment editor Derrick Bang, author
of 2000's popular and critically praised "50 Years of
Happiness: A Tribute to Charles M. Schulz," in early 2004
released his second book about Schulz, this one focusing on
the cartoonist's early work after returning home from his WWII
service: "Charles M. Schulz: Li'l Beginnings." Derrick fled
the greater Los Angeles basin to attend Northern California's
UC Davis, loved the area, and decided to remain as a full-time
resident after graduating in June 1977. To fill those hours
when he wasn't busily writing for any newspaper or magazine
foolish enough to publish him, he founded The Game Preserve, a
retail Davis game-and-puzzle store, in September 1978. Derrick
kept his shop open for just over 18 years, and finally closed
the business in January 1997, when he took over the full-time
position as entertainment editor for The Enterprise. Derrick
has written film, television, Internet and general
entertainment commentary for all three Davis/Woodland area
newspapers since 1974, and still supplies regular columns and
features to The Enterprise. (Unlike most editors, he enjoys
writing.) He also handles freelance writing and research
assignments for Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates, and
writes and edits the newsletter for the Charles M. Schulz
Museum, in Santa Rosa, California. Derrick lives in Davis with
his wife, Gayna, and two preternaturally precocious pets.

C. Colton Reporter Carlsbad native
(no, not the Caverns, that's in New Mexico) C. Colton, 26, has
been spinning his tales of sports brilliance at the Davis
Enterprise since May 2000. He had a yearlong stint of covering
rodeo and avoiding flying cow dung in the fertile Eastern
Washington town of Ellensburg at the Daily Record newspaper. A
1999 graduate of the esteemed (in some circles anyway)
University of the Pacific, Colton enjoys honing his craft,
writing creatively, pretending to be a rock star with his
dusty old bass guitar, getting schooled by high school kids in
basketball, and hiking (if the conditions are pristine and
there's no mud and stuff). Moonlighting as a professional
surfer, a TV weatherman or running a hip-hop falaffel house
are still career aspirations. Reach him at ccolton@davisenterprise.net

graduate of Rio Americano High School, where he spent most of
his time studying photography. He is enrolled at Sacramento
City College and hopes to transfer to San Jose State

completing an internship at the Mountain Democrat in 2000. He
earned a first-place award in 2001 from the California
Newspaper Publishers' Association for his photo essay on a
Davis teen's battle with bone cancer. He plans to continue his
career in photojournalism, with hopes of someday shooting for
National Geographic magazine. Until then, he will have to
settle for his favorite assignment: photographing Sacramento
Kings games. Reach Greg at photo@davisenterprise.net.

Torrance. After graduating in 2000, she worked as a reporter
