School ended for us tennis players at noon today, and I didn't even know. I was planning on going back after lunch, but then everyone started arriving near the grass where we were sitting around. It was relaxing sitting around in the heavy breeze, but it made for pretty bad tennis weather.
During our two hour warmup, Dale got the tennis team to go and turn around two giant metal bleachers. They were put facing the soccer field after the new tennis courts were made, but noone sits in them, so they're not great for watching tennis. After a lot of strength and effort, now people watching have a place to sit.
Before going back to the courts, some of the tennis team decided to play a little soccer with Dugger and his soccer friend.
Franklin, the opposing team, finally arrived and after warming up a little more we all got ready, and introduced and matched up the players. We did our special little team cheer we stole from Los Gatos, but thats when Franklin showed us how weird they are. Here's Franklins cheer:
Yes... Franklin has very weird tennis players.
The guy I played was named Joe, and randomly screamed out in spanish. He yelled a lot of random spanish, both in joy and in disappointment. It was frustrating playing him at first, because the wind kept blowing my ball out, but I slowly pulled through, and remained calm through all his random yelling. The final score was 6-4, 6-1.
Eric played through a flu, but his opponent was some guy wearing an underarmor style shirt and basketball shorts. He looked like some buff biker guy, but he pushed the ball like none other. All of their points were extremely slow, and all the guy did was lob the ball over the net. Eric got really frustrated but refused to give up. During the match, he broke the strings of one racquet, and broke a second one by smashing it. In the end, he lost.
Our team won 8-1. Jesuit is tomorrow, which is Section finals. It will be extremely tough. I have three people lined up to "give me" from 40$ to 500$ if I win my match against nick andrews tomorrow. If we win, it will be the reverse of the movie "miracle", because we're the old defending champions, and they're the elite team full of freshment.
I was interviewed by the Davis Enterprise about this photoblog today. They're going to send over a photographer to take pictures of me doing something with this blog.
