Watermelon Music

Last night I slept over at Joseph's place. Jim came too, and when I arrived, they were watching House and playing a slow game of chess. After Jim forfeited, Joseph convinced me to play a game, and then we watched the movie Enemy of the State.
Enemy of the State is kinda fast paced, but half the time I had no idea what was going on, until the very end when I sightly understood who was who and what was happening. It was pretty good though, and freaks you out quite a bit about how much privacy you really have, but theres really unrealistic stuff in the movie. Despite these things, we all agreed it was pretty decent, so I'd recommend it to a friend.

Early in the morning, we decided to go to the garage to do a little boxing. He had two headgears, and two pairs of gloves. We took turns resting, and the two people in would do full power no headshot boxing. A few months ago, I wouldn't have wanted to, but I guess I'm braver now, so I had a lot of fun. A few times we got in massive hits to the ribs, and a few times our swings strayed and we smacked the guy in the jaw. It was extremely tiring though.
In the afternoon today, a bit after lunch, I took my brother downtown to buy the guitar strings he's wanted for the longest time. I usually don't let him play my electric, and we have a really cheap garage sale acoustic that he can play, but it's missing all but three strings, which didn't sound too great.
We stopped first at armadillo music, where I looked around for cds in the bargain bin. After we left and started walking towards watermelon music, my brother saw baskin robbins to the side, so I took him there and we split a brownie sundae before continuing our journey. The store next to watermelon had beanbags for 40 bucks, but they didn't have a giant tennis ball one. Messed up.
In watermelon, we spent a long time just fooling around with the music equipment. I'll probably get an acoustic guitar sooner or later, since electric just isn't the same. There was a mini piano, insanely weird rubber bass, and awesome electric drums. There was a guy I think is the owner walking around, who wasn't too friendly, so after staying forever on the instruments, I bought the strings for seven bucks and we went home.
Back home, I took the old guitar, sliced off the cruddy strings, and took a long time cooperatively with my brother installing the new strings. Finally we got all six strings on the guitar, and tuned the guitar. When we finished tuning, I strummed a few times, and the E string was still off, so I tried turning the knob to tune it some more, when suddenly the whole knob part snapped, and a little inside part came off. It was a huge disappointment, having it break like that after so much time and work, but my brother was content with five strings that sounded normal. Here's a clip of how it sounds:
Now my brother doesn't have to beg me to play my guitar all the time just to have me say no.
American idol is on tonight. I hope chubs and anwar don't get voted off.
Oh man. Anwar got bottom three tonight, and finally he was standing up on stage with jessica sierra, so I got hecka nervous, scared that he was going to leave tonight. Turns out he got to stay, so I let out a big, "Yes!", and life goes on.

Jim on March 30, 2005 08:41 PMyou should buy new pegs for your brother. you would be suprised at the difference it would make for teh guitar, beyond just being able to use the E-string
michael on March 30, 2005 09:47 PMOh wow. I didn't realize I could replace the pegs... Thanks Jim.

mrpicholas on April 25, 2005 09:57 PMPutting steel strings on a classical guitar will damage it beyond repair. You need classical (nylon) strings.
michael on April 25, 2005 10:17 PMOh is it a classical guitar? I think we got it for a couple dollars at a garage sale.
